COVID-19 update

28th July 2021

19th Av 5781

The cemetery is open to visitors between 8 am (office 8.30 am) and 4.45 pm, Sundays to Thursdays and 8 am (office 8.30 am) to 3.45 pm on Fridays.

England moves to Step 4 from 19th July 2021.

Effectively nothing will change from our current regulations. The Government’s own official advice and guidelines are:

“While cases are high and rising, everybody needs to continue to act carefully and remain cautious.

The number of people who can attend funerals and stone settings is in most cases determined by how many people a venue can safely accommodate, with social distancing measures in place, including guests of all ages and anyone working at the event.

Regardless of the type of venue, some restrictions for these events will remain in place to enable them to take place safely. This includes face coverings, social distancing, and restrictions on singing.”

Therefore, we will continue to allow 60 people maximum to attend funerals and stone settings, excluding officiants. For funerals, the prayer hall will be open and seating will be strictly limited to 32 people with the remaining congregation standing outside under the canopy.

Masks will be mandatory in the prayer hall unless an individual is exempt. There is no communal singing.

Visitors may remove face coverings outside.

Funerals will finish at the graveside while all stone setting services will take place at graveside. Visitors are asked to follow and respect cemetery procedures at all times.

The cemetery office is closed to the public.

We thank you for your cooperation and patience during these challenging times.

Tips and Gratuities

The Joint Burial Committee and staff are committed to offering members a very professional service and there is a strict ‘no gratuities’ policy. People who would like to donate any monies can do so through the charity boxes found near the cemetery offices and the prayer hall. Donations help with the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds.

Directions & Parking

Please note that parking is very restricted. The cemetery was designed in an era without cars and there is only room to safely park about 10 vehicles. During services, priority is given to the officiating Rabbi and the Funeral Director. You can park on Hoop Lane after 9.30 am Monday to Friday, and all day on Sunday.
